6th annual North Bay Regional Heritage Fair goes today

Nipissing University is pleased to host the sixth annual North Bay Regional Heritage Fair on Friday, May 6, in the Education Centre Gymnasium.

The Heritage Fair brings together about 100 local students from both English and French school boards from Grades 4 – 9 to share their projects showcasing the history, geography and heritage of our community, province and country. Students will also participate in a variety of interactive workshops that will focus on developing skills for further historical inquiry.

Students have the opportunity to receive one of several awards, including the Excellence Award from Ontario Power Generation. OPG has been the Fair’s community partner for the past two years and has been instrumental in making the program in North Bay a thriving success.

Opening ceremonies take place at 9 a.m. The fair is free of charge and is open to the public from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The Heritage Fairs Program encourages students to explore Canadian heritage in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment. The featured projects will be in English or in French. Students use the medium of their choice to tell stories about Canadian heroes, legends, milestones and achievements. They present the results of their research at a public exhibition. Since its beginning in 1993, the Heritage Fairs Program has grown to include more than 275,000 students across Canada each year.
