$35,000 in tools stolen

The Almaguin Highlands OPP is investigating the theft of numerous tools from a logging site on Highway 518 West. Someone entered the property sometime between 6 p.m., Sunday August 16 and 6 a.m.

The Almaguin Highlands OPP is investigating the theft of numerous tools from a logging site on Highway 518 West.

Someone entered the property sometime between 6 p.m., Sunday August 16 and 6 a.m., Monday August 17, and stole:

  • Green Greenlee outdoor storage box
  • Various Hand tools
  • Six tool box organizers filled with electrical and hydraulic parts
  • Two Alemite grease guns
  • 25 foot logging chain
  • Black ROK outdoor storage box
  • Stihl pole saw
  • Husqvarna 435 chainsaw
  • Assorted electrical and hydraulic parts and fittings for tree harvester
  • Two full hydraulic oil containers

The total value of the stolen items is approximately $35,000.

Meanwhile, on Monday August 17, officers from the OPP Crime Unit arrested and charged a Ryerson Township woman with possession of stolen property. 

Officers have had an ongoing investigation into several thefts in the Almaguin Highlands area and as a result police arrested and charged Marie Turner, 43 with the following offences;

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Eight counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, cocaine.

Turner was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday September 24, in Sundridge.

In other Almaguin Highlands news, on Wednesday August 12, at approximately 1 a.m., police got a traffic complaint of a vehicle travelling north bound on Highway 11 at a fast rate of speed.

Police found the vehicle travelling in excess of 150 kilometers per hour and stopped it on Ontario Street in Burk’s Falls.

The driver and arrested and charged.

Jordan Flintoft, 25 of Huntsville faces the following charges:

  • Driving with ability impaired
  • Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood 
  • Take motor vehicle without consent, 
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, 
  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – speeding by 50 or more kilometers per hour,
  • Driving while under suspension
