A festive cheer is in the air as citizens of all ages flock to the 19th annual Artisan Craft Show hosted by the ladies auxiliary of the Davedi Club.

The show, which is free of charge, features 99% percent local artisans. Today, Sunday, is the last day to take advantage of this one of a kind event.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for the North Bay community. We have about 36 artisans who take turns getting involved and showing off their talents,” Louise DeFonz, Event coordinator and manager said.

Anne Taylor, artisan show volunteer said it’s the best event in the city this weekend.

“Hand knit sweaters, gift cards, draperies and other homemade treats… Many of the vendors carry easily affordable items that are perfect for gift giving, especially since Christmas is just around the corner,” Taylor said.

New additions to the show include artist and card designer Richard Malik, an autistic artist who spends much of his time passionately painting his surroundings.

Fran Hanover, a locally respected and renowned artist, took to the event with her vibrant paintings and keepsake boxes that express the spirit and individuality of the essence of woman.

“Each piece I create is different than the next in order to express individuality. When I create a painting or other piece of art I like to strip away the image that society places on women in order to show the true power and passion of what it is to be a woman,” Hanover said.

A hands-down crowd favourite is the Davedi Club Penny Sale. For one dollar visitors can purchase a sheet of stamp sized tickets that are used to bid on a range of items.

“We’re thankful to have the support of the artisans and local businesses who have generously donated the items for the Penny Sale. There are many great items and it’s a lot of fun to watch eyes light up as people try their best to decide what to bid on,” DeFonz said.

She said the Artisan Show is always open to new ideas and innovations.
