18 criminal charges in Bonfield firearms case

North Bay OPP has laid 18 criminal charges concerning a firearm-related incident in Bonfield.

On January 2, at 1 p.m., the Crime Unit initiated an investigation following a complaint regarding possible firearms offences.

Then two days later, the North Bay OPP Crime Unit as well as the Northeast Region OPP Emergency Response Team arrived at a house on Grand Desert Road in Bonfield to execute a search warrant.

Richard Hotte, 60, from Bonfield was arrested and charged with:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Three counts of careless storage of ammunition
  • 14 counts of breach of firearms regulations

Hotte was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on January 10, 2024.
