14th Annual Live Butterfly Release set for Saturday, July 8

The butterflies are delivered in specially tailored packages; dark and cool conditions keep the butterflies in a comfortable resting state until the day of the release

The Near North Palliative Care Network will host the 14th Annual Live Butterfly Release on Saturday, July 8, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Kiwanis Band Shell on the waterfront.

"This will be an open Celebration of Life, completely free of charge, to all families and communities in a radius of 150km around North Bay and in memory of all our family and friends lost in recent years," says a news release.

The event will also be livestreamed from North Bay on YouTube and Facebook to those who can’t come in person, and some select facilities will partner with the NNPCN to host their own butterfly release for North Bay residents who cannot travel. The event is family-friendly and will include live music, a BBQ hosted by the Widdifield Lions, a kids’ colouring contest, auctions, raffle prizes, and more.

Participants can reserve their butterflies via a charitable donation online, by calling the NNPCN at 705-497-9239, or by emailing [email protected]. You can also donate in person on the day of the event.

"The butterflies are delivered in specially tailored packages; dark and cool conditions keep the butterflies in a comfortable resting state until the day of the release. Once the package is opened, the natural heat and light will awaken these sleeping beauties and inspire them to take flight," explains the release.

All proceeds go directly towards ensuring the NNPCN can continue offering free bereavement, educational, and palliative care services as the region’s visiting hospice to all communities in the Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts: West Nipissing, North Bay and Area, Mattawa Region, Almaguin Region, Temagami, East Parry Sound, and more.

Music will be provided by the Broome Turners, Jason Brock Chapman Stick, NorthFacing Folk, and Quarter 2 Four...an all-female barbershop quartet.
