Poem: Man versus nature

Man Versus Nature

Smoke in the air,

flames on the ground.

Some places inescapable,

with fire all around.

First in the west,

then in the east.

The fearless on the fringe,

to tame the beast.

It’s man versus nature,

through the day, into night.

With either not willing,

to give up the fight.

At a minute’s notice,

with no time to pack.

People huddled in shelters,

with the clothes on their back.

Not knowing the future,

or what will remain.

A quick look around,

shows them sharing the pain.

The old and the young,

the frail and the strong.

Black, White, Yellow and Brown,

now all get along.

All willing to help.

All willing to share.

Each one a stranger.

All willing to care.

Some pray alone,

some hand in hand.

Each asking their God,

to help spare their land.

This nightmare will end,

as they always do.

With those that lost

and the fortunate few.
