Letter: Ward system would help solve city's troubles

'I brought this up to the mayor and council in the last civic election - a few including Mayor Al McDonald said they were in favor of at least studying the issue - it has been 4 years and the silence is deafening'

To the editor:

North Bay WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

Once again we are into a civic election and once again we are faced with the same old same old.

I have lived in North Bay for 30 years and have seen this city decline - our streets have turned into ghettos. People are sleeping on the streets and dying there.

Meanwhile, City Hall buries its head in the sand and passes the buck.

They are more interested in their vanity projects like areas and casinos rather than addressing the real issues facing the city.

PEOPLE SAY THEY WANT CHANGE but they are not willing to change. One way to change would be for the city to adopt a ward system - that way we would have a council member who was accountable to their local community.

What is a ward of the city mean? A division or district of a city or town, for administrative or political purposes

As it stands we have 10 members accountable to only themselves and their friends.

I brought this up to the mayor and council in the last civic election - a few including Mayor Al McDonald said they were in favor of at least studying the issue - it has been 4 years and the silence is deafening.

North bay if you really want change you have to change - stop living in la la land and realize that this city is in big trouble.
