To the editor:

On Monday I had a confrontation with an individual riding his bike while having two rottweilers running ahead of him by quite a few metres and no leashes in sight.

I was walking under the small tunnel by the overpass with my little one and her uncle. The two Rotties came running in our direction and just missed her and me if it wasn't for me getting out of the way.

I didn't even see the dog owner on his bike till 30 seconds or so after.

I told the gentleman that he should have his dogs on a leash. Then he stops to yell at me saying he "doesn't care about my feelings."

Fortunately, during the phone call with the police, and the dog owner screaming, I had my little one's uncle walk her to a safe distance while I handled the police phone call.

This guy was wearing a black hoody on a bike and was heading towards the mini putt golf section.

The police were not able to find the individual so I posted on North Bay complaints.., only to see some people defending this situation. A few mentioned the same problems with the same individual as he seems to be known in town.

I’ve had one similar situation at the beach once last year, but there doesn't seem to not be much discussion on this issue. Too many times dog owners have potentially aggressive dogs off their leash in this town, and don’t seem to be concerned when they run up to OTHER people's kids.

I really think this needs to be discussed in our community. I called the police yesterday for an update on the situation, however, they weren’t able to find the dog owner.

I have posted on North Bay complaints in hopes of gathering a name also. I just feel that we need more discussion on this topic to avoid potential accidents.

Some people said it was a waste of a police call. Others could relate.. where does one draw the line? I really would like to see this become a topic of conversation. Thanks for your time.
