To the editor:

Of course, I don’t want someone creeping around my car. Naturally, I am concerned someone might steal my neighbour's kid’s bike.

But, how did we go from normal safety concerns, to what I’m now seeing as abject paranoia?

Social media is rampant with folks obsessed with people who are uniquely dressed and pushing shopping carts. The guy walking a bike is watched by the entire block assuming evil intent front and foremost. Now, according to this BayToday article, police are seeing a large increase in reports calling out these people as “suspicious.”

Used to be called nuisance calls. We live in a city with serious addiction, mental health, and homelessness issues. Please put down the binoculars, get off the phone, and make a donation to an organization that can help with all the compassion we sometimes appear to be in short supply of.
