Letter: Renovate existing arenas, don't build new

It would be certain that the cost of renovating the existing facilities would be far less than the original budgeted cost of the twin pads and we would still have the three ice pads; not just the two

The West Ferris "Sam Jacks" arena is nearing the end of its life.

To the Editor:

For much less cost why not make good the existing arenas? They are located in areas of the city that are within walking distance of the users. The proposed twin pad arena can only be reached by driving to it.

It would be certain that the cost of renovating the existing facilities would be far less than the original budgeted cost of the twin pads and we would still have the three ice pads; not just the two.

There would be savings from tearing down and disposal of the existing arenas at a time when the land they occupy would not realize much money.

Like the fiasco of Toronto allowing the development of the set aside green lands, why can we not work within the contents of what we have? Toronto needs homes, not single detached houses which people can not afford.

The lack of rationality in the two situations is similar.

Sincerely,
Paul Trussler
