Editor's note: Ms. Couchie writes in response to the letter We owe much to Queen Victoria.

-----

I was disturbed when I read the letter about Queen Victoria and all of the good benefits that her regime brought to “Canada."

As a First Nation citizen who lives on Reserve I beg to differ.

Yes, our lands were rich in resources and what good did that do for us? We were impoverished and ruled under the Indian Act and subject to crooked ways of taking land from us because of the lumber resources.

I really support the singer of the national anthem that added the phrase “our home on Native Land”. That is the way it should be sung.
