LETTER: Put community safety over arena construction

Instead of investing in infrastructure projects, we should be directing our resources towards initiatives that address the pressing issues facing our community

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concern about the recent decision to allocate $60 million toward the construction of a new arena in our community. While investments in recreational facilities are undoubtedly important, I believe that our immediate priority should be the safety and well-being of our residents.

At a time when concerns about public safety are on the rise, it seems counterintuitive to prioritize the construction of a new arena over bolstering our police force and enhancing community safety measures. Instead of investing in infrastructure projects, we should be directing our resources towards initiatives that address the pressing issues facing our community.

Allocating funds towards increasing police presence, implementing crime prevention programs, and supporting community outreach initiatives would have a more direct and immediate impact on addressing safety concerns. By prioritizing these efforts, we can work towards creating a safer and more secure environment for all residents.

I urge our local government officials to reconsider their allocation of funds and prioritize investments that will have a meaningful and positive impact on the safety and well-being of our community. It's time to put the needs of our residents first and ensure that our resources are being used effectively to address the issues that matter most.

Sincerely,
Mike Freeman
