A Journalist is an individual that collects information, processes it and writes it into a newsworthy form.
The opinion story written by a certain journalist on October 19th regarding his neighbours, in my mind did not meet that criteria.
Two disgruntled neighbours? Who cares?
Mr. Dale thought this was newsworthy five days before our city election.
It was not until the" Dear Peter Chirico" article, that my suspicions were confirmed of Mr. Dale's dislike for our newly elected Mayor. These articles added fuel to the fire of an already negative attack campaign against Chirico.
I would like to make a suggestion for the next opinion letter you can write.
I would suggest Mr. Dale put together an article on the 18 years of community service Mr. Chirico has given to North Bay as both a councillor and of late leading our Chamber Of Commerce.
He can talk to a few of the 7600 voters who believed he was the person to lead us as mayor the next four years. He could Interview other longtime neighbours who supported him.
He could also interview members of our Chamber of Commerce who have nothing but praise for what he has tried to accomplish as their Chamber President.
I believe the negative campaigning and articles against Chirico, may have helped him because rational, reasonable people read right through those mis-truths.
This council will have enough on its plate to deal with and will need all the positive vibes from us and most importantly our media.
So put aside your sour grapes, and get behind this mayor and council for the next four years.
In closing, to all you "wanna-be" campaign workers in the future?
It is very important when asked: "how your candidate can make a difference?" Make sure they answer the question and not just go negative against their opponent.
For those who didn't vote, you have nothing to complain about.
