Letter: Natural gas hike puts stress on customers

I don't believe that it is an oil/gas shortage nor the world circumstances can justify such an outrageous increase such as doubling our natural gas which individuals require

To the editor:

Do you smell rotten eggs?

I am writing to discuss the stress many will face relating to the increase in costs associated with Enbridge natural gas.

I received my equal billing in August and have discovered that the cost of natural gas has doubled. Mine normally was $86 equal billing but this month is $166 per month and this will be my new bill for the year.

A friend and I did contact Enbridge to inquire why our bill was doubled and we were informed that “Yes” the cost has doubled, from 16 cents a cubic meter to 31 cents a cubic meter and it was due to the status of the world right now, like the war in Ukraine and Covid.

I question why the cost has doubled since Canada has enough oil to supply our country and that other countries are trying to buy oil from this country?

I don't believe that it is an oil/gas shortage or the world circumstances that can justify such an outrageous increase as doubling our natural gas, which individuals require.

Unfortunately, individuals who are not on equal billing will not experience the doubling of their natural gas bill until winter. What does the public think?
