Letter: Israel has every right to defend itself

To the editor:

I am writing this letter as I am personally appalled at the recent letter published on November 10 by Peter Ferris — regarding his statements about Israel oppressing the Palestinian people and driving them out of their homes and land in 1948. This is not what I have learned from history.

See: Letter: Canadians should be outraged at moral cowardice shown by leaders

Sir, I don’t know what news sources you watch but from the news sources I am watching, I don’t see this happening. The horrific attacks by Hamas on October 7, in which 1,400 Israeli citizens were brutally tortured and murdered — including babies and children — and over 200 innocent Israeli hostages were taken into Gaza sparked a declaration of war by Israel to defend the country from future attacks.

It is no secret that Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations are simply proxies for Iran which has publicly vowed to wipe Israel off the map. That sounds like genocide to me.

My understanding is that the Israel Defense Forces is targeting Hamas and their intent is not to harm the innocent Palestinians. Ways of escape are being made for them as we speak.

It has been widely publicized that these terrorists are known to use innocent Palestinians as human shields and their main tunnel networks and headquarters exist under hospitals, schools and daycares. This shows that the deaths of any innocent Palestinians are on Hamas, not Israel.

Israel has lived too long under their threats and suffered the wounding and loss of life for decades from these terrorists. They have every right just like any country to defend their country from invasion and attack.

I am sure if this happened on Canadian soil the outcry would be deafening for our leaders and military to defend innocent citizens from further harm

If this is what you call oppression then you might want to check your moral compass, sir!
