Letter: Fedeli's response to Greenbelt selloff 'a sad example of old world thinking'

'Sacrificing minor government officials will not create a big enough diversion to obscure this. It looks like graft to me, even through the smoke and mirrors'

Dear Mr Fedeli,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my concerns about your government selling lands in the Greenbelt to privileged developers.

Unfortunately, it sounded like your government’s template response to this troubling issue.

Although I agree that there is an acute housing shortage, I do not accept your explanation that this land was needed to address the problem. Both government and private authorities on this issue report the land was not required.

Nothing in your letter convinced me otherwise.

What this decision accomplished was the following, a loss of greenbelt (high-quality arable land or highly prized natural environment that dense cities of the future would cherish), breaking an election promise which demonstrated your government can’t be trusted with any promise, a sad example of old world thinking when the future will require steering away from urban sprawl to densification, some quid pro quo exchange I guess where the government or persons in the government benefits from this sale and privileged developers make a huge windfall.

Sacrificing minor government officials will not create a big enough diversion to obscure this. It looks like graft to me, even through the smoke and mirrors.

Yours sincerely,

David Apramian,

North Bay
