Letter: 80 million bucks is overkill

I would like to see council take a broader view of the recreational needs of the city

To the editor:

An eighty-million-dollar tab for a double ice pad seems like overkill for North Bay.

And aside from the cost, isn't it time for folks to move beyond this preoccupation with the sport of hockey?

Doesn't it make more sense to decentralize facilities that are designed for other sports? These buildings could include basketball, volleyball, or pickleball courts for example.

Some of these sports can be played by all ages year-round and unlike hockey, there is very little cost for equipment and uniforms.

And of course, decentralized facilities make it easier for people... especially young folks....to get there.

I would like to see council take a broader view of the recreational needs of the city.
