The Northern Football Conference has decided to postpone the NFC football season that takes place annually across Ontario in July and August.

"The nature of the NFC senior football league is that we operate at a semi-pro level football league which involves longer pre-season preparation times for marketing, player signings and training camp operations than varsity age groups," stated Marc Mathon, secretary of the NFC and North Bay Bulldogs president in a release.

"As well, in order to avoid conflicts with OUA football, the NFC needs to wrap up its season by the third week of August," Mathon continued in the release.

The decision came on Sunday night during a Northern Football Conference special league meeting.

"With many municipalities cancelling field access until July the NFC’s summer window to conduct a season has passed us by," stated Mathon.

With the cancellation, the NFC plans on making a strong comeback for the summer of 2021.

"With that decision, the NFC membership adds that the safety of its players, coaches and volunteers was also an important factor in making this decision, which is why the NFC waited until now to make that call," Mathon continued.

“Once it became evident that fields across the league would not be available until well into our summer season window we gathered the membership and together we made this decision. It was a hard one that nobody took lightly.”

Mathon notes NFC clubs may run football camps or inter-team scrimmages later on this summer as long as it is allowed by the provincial and municipal governments at that time.

The North Bay Bulldogs NFC team finished the 2019 season with an 0-8 record.
