New COVID case confirmed in Timiskaming region

A new COVID-19 case has been confirmed by the Timiskaming Health Unit. 

It is the 27th confirmed case of the virus in the district since the start of the pandemic, and the ninth reported so far this month. There are five known active cases.

The case announced today is a person in the south part of the district, which includes the New Liskeard and Temagami areas. 

"The case is linked to a local positive case. The individual is isolating at home. Contact tracing is underway and those who have been identified as close contacts have been, or are in the process of being notified," reads the health unit bulletin. 

There is also a low-risk exposure advisory still in effect.

The gathering happened Dec. 5 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Riverside Place in New Liskeard. People who attended are advised to self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days. 

In the Timiskaming region, there are assessment centres in the areas of Temiskaming Shores, Englehart, Kirkland Lake, and Temagami. Testing is by appointment only.
