Ken Brown arrived at Fire Station 1 and North Bay police headquarters with coffee, doughnuts, and Girl Guide cookies.

It was his 10th stop of the day, delivering 400 cups of coffee, 700 doughnuts, and 50 boxes of Girl Guide of Canada cookies.

Just 15 more stops to go.

“We always give back to the community,” says the owner of Brown’s Moving Services in North Bay. “We’re not in it to make money.”

He purchased the treats for frontline workers with money his wife, Pauline, earned from making cloth face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. She’s made of 1,500 of the masks, selling about 500 of them to the public and donating the rest to frontline workers.

The masks sell for $10 each.

Const. Shawn Hofmann says police officers are being well fed, with members of the public dropping off food and coffee weekly.

Brown also delivered cloth face masks for the officers and their families. Police officers have been issued N95 masks if they are needed.

Brown stopped at local pharmacies and grocery stores, as well, to deliver the treats. He says people tend to forget they also are working hard and at risk.

All the profits from the masks Pauline Brown makes are going back to frontline workers. She has been working non-stop for the past two months making masks, and has burned through two sewing machines doing it.

“We’re trying to keep everyone safe.”
