City police arrested a 51-year-old man yesterday and charged him with break and enter after the homeowner confronted the intruder.
Police got a call that a man had unlawfully entered the woman's home. She had returned to her residence at approximately 7:30 a.m., finding the house in disarray.
The victim saw the thief and confronted him, and he fled.
Officers later arrested the intruder on Ferguson Street.
Police say the victim and accused are not known to one another.
Jeffrey Brian Mayhew, 51, of North Bay is charged with break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Mayhew was released on an undertaking and is set to appear before the court on September 27.
