ERT training exercise this morning from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The North Bay Police would like to inform the public that its Emergency Response Team (ERT), in partnership with BAYSAR Search and Rescue, will be conducting a missing person search training exercise this morning (Wednesday, September 24) from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in an area bounded by Princess Street, Fisher Street, High Street and Northgate Shopping Centre.

About the ERT
The North Bay Police Service’s ERT is a 12-member team that uses a combination of special weapons and tactics to deal with high-risk occurrences.

At times, it works in conjunction with crisis negotiators, incident commanders and uniform personnel to isolate, contain, evacuate, and negotiate occurrences to a peaceful conclusion. In addition, the members of the ERT work regular duties and respond to high-risk occurrences when required both in full team and part team functions. The ERT also provides courtroom and witness protection for high-risk occurrences and transportation services for violent offenders or high risk of escape custody offenders, involved accused and/or convicted persons.

The ERT is specifically trained in search and rescue. The team sets up and conducts searches for lost and or missing persons, and provides recommendations and documentation to support continuing or discontinuing search occurrences.
