Police request the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who attempted to break into a residence on Anita  Avenue this morning.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, police received a report of an attempt break and enter. A woman who had temporarily left the residence returned to find an unknown man at the door attempting to break into the home. When she asked him what he was doing, he physically assaulted her and then fled.

The suspect is identified as a 6-foot tall, very thin man, clean-cut and with a deep scar running down his face from his left eye to the left side of his mouth. He was wearing red skinny jeans and a black buttoned cardigan at the time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 705-497-5555.

Hoax and scam calls made to residents yesterday

Between 5:17 p.m. and 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, the North Bay Police Service responded to five reports of threatening and fraudulent phone calls made to residents living on Olive Street, Stone Manor Drive, Mulligan Street and Bain Drive.

Following an investigation, police report that all calls were hoaxes or scams, made from the same phone number: 519-800-1046. This number has been associated with many other fraudulent calls made throughout the province over the past year.

Police remind the public to not provide banking or credit card information to unsolicited callers. No credit card company or bank would ever call you and ask you to divulge such information.

The public is also advised that any threatening calls coming from 519-800-1046 are hoaxes. Simply hang up if you receive a call from this number.

Domestic Violence Stats for August 2014

Over the month of August 2014, the North Bay Police Service responded to 97 domestic-related incidents that resulted in 27 people being charged with a total of 56 offences.

21 males were charged for a total of 44 offences, of which:
14 were for assault;
one was for assault causing bodily harm;
five were for breach of recognizance;
two were for breach of undertaking;
nine were for breach of probation;
two were for breach of restraining order;
three were for utter threats;
one was for criminal harassment;
three were for mischief;
one was for chocking;
one was for robbery;
one was for weapons dangerous; and
one was for careless storage of a firearm.

Of those males charged, 12 were held in custody pending bail and nine were released with a promise to appear/undertaking with a court date.

Six females were charged for a total of 12 offences, of which:
seven were for assault;
two were for assault with a weapon;
one was for breach of undertaking;
one was for mischief; and
one was for unlawfully in a dwelling.
