In light of the tragedies that took place in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec this week and in Ottawa today, the North Bay Police Service is working with the City of North Bay and military officials to ensure that military personnel and the residents of our communities are safe.

“At this point, we have no intelligence that would indicate that military personnel or the residents of North Bay and Callander are at risk,” said Chief Paul Cook, North Bay Police Service. “We will continue to work with our policing partners and counterparts within the intelligence community to monitor this situation. Our officers have been requested to keep extra observation on 22 Wing, military and military reserve buildings, legions and related facilities and or government buildings.”

“All the protocols are in place and we are in constant contact with the North Bay Police Service,” said Mayor Al McDonald, City of North Bay. “We ask local residents to report any suspicious activity to police. We have no reason to believe our community is in danger. However, it is important that we are aware of what is happening in the country and continue to be vigilant.”

The North Bay Police Service and the City of North Bay wish to express their condolences to those affected by these tragedies.
