Fraud Caution

The North Bay Police Service would like to warn the public that there have been complaints by various air miles customers reporting that they had been contacted by an automated message purportedly from Air Miles Canada notifying collectors that they had won reward miles.

Air Miles Canada has been contacted and has the following warning posted on their website:

AIR MILES does not use an automated message to notify Collectors they have won reward miles. Protect your Personal Information. Never give your AIR MILES Collector Account number or PIN in response to a telemarketing call.

We encourage the public to be cautious about sharing any personal information with anyone over the telephone, especially from calls that you did not initiate.

Frauds

The North Bay Police Service has concluded a yearlong investigation into an internal fraud perpetrated against a local business by their former office manager.

In September of 2012 a local company made a formal complaint to the North Bay Police Service about a long term employee and a number of inappropriate financial records that had been altered to cover up her fraudulent activity.

Detective Constable Denis Levasseur has since charged and released Sharon Elliott of Callander with 6 counts of Fraud over $5000, 2 counts of Fraud under $5000, 1 count of theft over $5000 and 1 count of falsifying books. She is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges in mid October.
