SUSPECTED ARSON The North Bay Police Service is presently investigating a house fire that they suspect to be arson. This occurred at approximately 3:00 AM on Tuesday the 8th of May at a home on Legion Dr. within the south end of the city.

The North Bay Police Service is presently investigating a house fire that they suspect to be arson.

This occurred at approximately 3:00 AM on Tuesday the 8th of May at a home on Legion Dr. within the south end of the city.

Our investigation is in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office, and the home is presently left gutted with only a shell remaining.

A family of 5, including young children narrowly escaped serious harm or death and fortunately no injuries were sustained.

The lead investigator Det. Cst. Helen Kent is asking for the public’s assistance with any information in this case.

A suspicious vehicle was seen stopping near the intersection of Lamorie St. and Legion Dr. between the hours of 2:30 AM and 3 AM during this same date.

Our Service is asking anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity near these streets during the early morning hours to call the North Bay Police at 497-5555 or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 476-8477.


ATTACK


On the 8th of May at approximately 11:30 PM a man forced his way into a residence on High St. in Callander. It is alleged that this man then attacked another man within the home.

The victim escaped and went to call 911. The attacker then took a knife from the home and went searching for the victim.

At this point Csts. Steve Sproule and Aaron Northrup of the North Bay Police arrived and arrested the assailant.

David BELL 26 years old of Lakeshore Dr. in North Bay is charged with Break and Enter and Commit Assault, Uttering Threats, Weapons Dangerous and Breach of Probation. He was kept in custody for a bail hearing.

CRIMINAL HARASSMENT

On the 8th of May during the early evening hours Det. Cst. Helene Kent of the North Bay Police Service arrested a male in relation to complaints of criminal harassment.

It is alleged that a man made several death threats against another male and his family over the period of Feb. to May of this year.

A complaint was recently given to the Police Service and the officer began to investigate the matter.

Russell MARTIN 38 years old of Nightingale Dr. is charged with Criminal Harassment and is being held for a bail hearing.
