UPDATE: Shaquille Sutherland arrested and charged

Yesterday morning, the North Bay Police Service released a photograph of Shaquille Sutherland, age 21, of North Bay and a news release informing the public of a warrant for his arrest and requesting the public’s assistance in locating him. Yesterday evening, following a traffic stop at Algonquin and McKeown Avenues, North Bay Police arrested and charged the accused on several counts.

First occurrence:
At approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014, a complainant informed North Bay Police of a verbal exchange between the accused and two male victims on High Street which turned violent. Sutherland is accused of using a dangerous weapon during the altercation and of assaulting both of them. Both victims avoided serious injuries.

Following an investigation and yesterday’s traffic stop, North Bay Police charged Sutherland with one count of assault, three counts of assault with a weapon, one count of possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, one count of breach of probation and three counts of breach of recognizance in relation to this incident.

Second occurrence:
On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a complainant informed police of an assault that occurred at a residence on Douglas Street. It was reported that Sutherland, who was known to the two residents, and two unknown accomplices who had their hands and faces concealed by bandanas, arrived at the residence uninvited and armed with a weapon, and forced their way in. Sutherland is accused of demanding money, physically assaulting the two victims and uttering threats. It was reported that the two other males also assaulted the two victims. The three men fled the area on foot, taking electronics and jewellery belonging to one of the victims with them. Both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an investigation and yesterday’s traffic stop, North Bay Police charged Sutherland with one count of break, enter and commit; one count of robbery; one count of  utter threat; and two counts of breach of recognizance in relation to this second incident.

Police are continuing the investigation into this occurrence and requests the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the two other male suspects.

Third occurrence:
On Tuesday, August 12, at approximately 6:15 p.m., North Bay Police placed the accused under arrest following a traffic stop of a vehicle he was in at Algonquin and McKeown Avenues.  A police search of the accused also found him to be in possession of marihuana.

Following an investigation, North Bay Police charged the accused with one count of possession of a controlled substance; one count of mischief under $5000; one count of breach of probation; and one count of breach of recognizance in relation to this third occurrence.

Sutherland was held in custody overnight, awaiting bail on all charges today.
