Two women face drug trafficking charges

On Monday afternoon, following an ongoing investigation by the North Bay Police’s street crime unit, police conducted a traffic stop and executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant of a hotel room on Lakeshore Drive, in North Bay.

As a result of the investigation, police seized over 30 grams of suspected crack cocaine, over 30 grams of suspected powdered cocaine, over 50 grams of suspected marijuana, as well as bundles of Canadian currency, and arrested and charged two women.

Hamilton’s Amber Thorogood, age 25, and Toronto’s Yolanda Meecham, age 26, both face charges of possession of a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking; and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both were held in custody overnight pending a bail hearing today.

The approximate street value of the cocaine is over $9000.
