Yesterday, following an investigation into a 9-1-1 call received at 11:38 a.m. from a concerned citizen reporting an assault on High Street at King Street, North Bay Police arrested four young persons.

Three youth face charges

Yesterday, following an investigation into a 9-1-1 call received at 11:38 a.m. from a concerned citizen reporting an assault on High Street at King Street, North Bay Police arrested four young persons. Three were charged. The fourth was released unconditionally.

A young person, who was held in custody for a bail hearing, was charged with:
Two counts of firearm – use while committing;
Two counts of assault with a weapon;
One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
One count of carry concealed weapon;
One count of careless use of a firearm;
One count of unauthorized possession of a weapon; and
Two counts of breach of probation.

A second young person, who was held in custody for a bail hearing, was charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

A third young person, who was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March, was charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

It is alleged that the three accused violently attacked two youth following a verbal confrontation between the two groups. During the altercation, the first accused pulled out a concealed gun, intimidated both victims with it, and used it to hit both victims. Both victims, who were also physically assaulted by the accused, sustained non-life-threatening injuries requiring medical attention in hospital.

Following the arrests of the accused, North Bay Police located the discarded weapon—a game getter rifle—which was seized as evidence.

In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the North Bay Police Service will not be releasing the names of the accused or any other information that may lead to their identification.
