Traffic complaint on Highway 12 leads to impaired charge

A driver was charged with impaired driving after police responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver.

On February 21, shortly after 10 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 12, West Nipissing.

Police located the vehicle and while speaking to the driver, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, and then transported to the Nipissing West OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Francois Rivest, 22, from West Nipissing, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired 
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 7 in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
