Young driver, in high-speed pursuit, takes cell phone call from Police

On October 01, 2008, North Bay Police took a stolen vehicle report from a mother indicating that her 16-year-old son took the family vehicle without her consent. An hour later a sharp-eyed patrol officer, Cst. Vince Corrente, spotted the vehicle on O’Brien St. The young driver refused to stop for police when lights and sirens were used .The resulting high speed pursuit was called off by police because of the dangerous conditions the driver exhibited while operating the stolen vehicle on City Streets.

Staff Sgt. Mike Tarini, the Duty Supervisor, then used some innovative techniques and called the youth on his cell phone. Surprisingly he answered it and after some discussion he eventually did the right thing and gave himself up to police.

The youth now faces charges of Theft & Possession of Stolen Property, Flight from Police & Fail to Stop for Police.
