North Bay Police remind drivers to remove precious new products from view when leaving them in your vehicles and to always lock your vehicles. Remember! Unlocked doors and windows are open invitations to thieves.

Sudbury resident charged for failing to remain following MVC

On Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at approximately 8:30 a.m., a male driver, travelling with a female passenger, caused a major collision after driving through a stop sign at the corner of Second Avenue East and Fisher streets and striking an oncoming vehicle that was travelling southbound on Fisher. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. The female driver sustained minor injuries, but the service of paramedics was not required for either parties.

Immediately after the collision, the male driver and his female passenger jumped out the car and fled the area on foot. Police located both within the vicinity shortly thereafter. They were both arrested and brought into custody.

A police search, subsequent to the arrest, revealed that the male suspect had a small amount of marijuana and a small amount of methamphetamine in his possession.

A police search of the vehicle found:
Two different Ontario licence plates, matching those reported stolen to police by two different vehicle owners. On November 22nd, both owners reported that their plates had been taken from their parked vehicles from their residence. Both live on Hughes Road, North Bay, in separate apartment buildings.
a set of Ontario licence plates, reported stolen to police two weeks ago, from the registered owner’s vehicle while it was parked at his Sudbury residence; and
several carpentry tools, believed to be those reported stolen on November 21st from the vehicle of another Sudbury resident.

Following an investigation, North Bay Police charged Michael Watson, age 19, of Sudbury with one count of fail to remain; four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000; one count of possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and one count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). He was held in custody for a bail hearing today.

His female passenger, who sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision, was released from custody unconditionally.
