UPDATE: Motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist
The following is an update to yesterday’s media release.
At 2:08 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, North Bay Police responded to the scene of a collision on Lakeshore Drive at Judge Avenue. A four-door car struck a bicycle. The female cyclist, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to hospital by ambulance and later released.
The police investigation, which involved the assistance of a North Bay Police Service Forensic Identification Officer, concluded that the car, which was travelling northbound towards the overpass from Lakeshore Drive, crossed Judge Avenue on a green light and struck the bicycle.
The cyclist failed to yield to traffic while riding eastbound on Judge Avenue across Lakeshore Drive, along the pedestrian crosswalk, and on the wrong side of the road.
No charges were laid.

Cycling is a fun, healthy and low-cost method of transportation that is good for the environment. However, before getting on your bike, the North Bay Police Service advises cyclists to learn the rules of the road, make sure you’re well-equipped, watch for hazards, and ride responsibility.
Under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, a bicycle is a vehicle.
Cyclists must:
ride on the right hand side of the road, with the flow of traffic;
stay as close to the right edge of the road whenever possible;
obey all traffic signs and signals; and
walk their bicycles when using pedestrian crosswalks.
Know your hand signals! Riding responsibility includes signaling to drivers before you make a move to turn or to stop.
