Driver accused of hitting pedestrian and failing to stop at the scene

On Monday afternoon, a complainant contacted police to report that he had just witnessed an unknown male driver of an SUV flee the scene after hitting a pedestrian with his vehicle on Lansdowne Avenue near McLeod. Following an investigation, North Bay Police arrested the male suspect at police headquarters on Wednesday.

Stan Edward Deveau, age 55, of North Bay was charged with:
One count of assault with a weapon; and
One count of fail to stop at the scene of an accident, both under the Criminal Code.

It is alleged that following a verbal argument that took place on Lansdowne Avenue, shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 1, between a female passenger who was in the accused’s parked SUV at the time and a male pedestrian, the accused drove his vehicle down Landsdowne Avenue, hit the pedestrian near McLeod, and then fled the scene.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.

The accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 15, 2016.
