(North Bay, ON) North Bay OPP were busy on Friday and Saturday night during this weekend (May 4th, 5th and 6th, 2007) investigating alcohol related incidents.

There were two alcohol related collisions on Friday evening (May 4th, 2007). Two alcohol incidents were reported to the media on Saturday. Another collision is under investigation that took place on Highway 17 west of North Bay close to the Couchie Industrial Park Road at approximately 9:30 p.m., Friday. Details on this motor vehicle collision that involves a blue 1993 Saturn is still under investigation. A male was trapped in this vehicle and had to be extricated by the North Bay Fire Department. Police have determined that alcohol was a contributing factor. Police investigated a Fatality involving an A.T.V. in the early hours Saturday May 5th, 2007, claiming the life of a Barrie, Ontario male in which alcohol was a factor.

On Saturday evening (May 5th, 2007) at approximately 9:00 p.m., police issued a 12 hour suspension on a male driver on Highway 17 near Bonfield, Ontario. Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday May 6th, 2007, police arrested 32 year old Jason Steven of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario for Impaired Driving following a R.I.D.E. program check. Steven appears in court on June 5th, 2007.

As the warm weather and clear conditions continue towards the summer months, the North Bay OPP will continue strict enforcement regarding alcohol traffic and marine related incidents. Drinking and Driving will not be tolerated.


A.T.V. Collision Claims The Life Of A Barrie Man

(Martin River, ON) North Bay OPP investigated a single vehicle roll-over that claimed the life of a Barrie, Ontario man shortly after midnight Saturday morning on Martin Lake Road, Gladman Township, Martin River, Ontario.

The deceased is identified as 48 year old Boguslaw Markowski of Barrie, Ontario. At approximately 12:30 a.m., Markowski was operating a green Polaris All Terrain Vehicle (A.T.V.) from a private driveway on Martin Lake Road in Martin River, Ontario. While entering Martin Lake Road, the A.T.V. rolled over onto the driver. Police determined that Markowski was not wearing a helmet and determined that alcohol was also a contributing factor in this collision.

An OPP North East Region Reconstructionist, a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator and a Forensic Identification Officer assisted in this investigation.
