No explosives found as police evacuate the Motherhouse

Police received information about a suspicious email that had been received at the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste Marie Motherhouse, located on Main Street West

Police investigating a bomb threat at Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse yesterday afternoon, said today it was determined that the threat was "unfounded."

Just before noon yesterday, North Bay Police received information about a suspicious email that had been received at the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie Motherhouse, located on Main Street West.

Officers immediately responded and learned that several emails had been received that morning concerning a suspicious package that had been left in the building recently. 

"The residents and staff of the Motherhouse were evacuated from the building, and nearby businesses were notified of the investigation," said Constable Merv Shantz. "A thorough search of the property was completed by police, and no explosives were found. Later that day, it was determined that the bomb threat was unfounded, and the occupants were able to safely return."

The North Bay Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Unit, with the assistance of the OPP, will continue with the investigation, in hopes that a suspect will be identified says a release.
