Weekend Occurrences
Over the weekend, North Bay Police responded to 269 calls for service that resulted in nine arrests. Offences included public intoxication; domestic assault; domestic mischief; assault; mischief; fail to remain; impaired driving; possession of marijuana; and breaches.
Assault / Mischief
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, November 1, a complainant called North Bay Police to report that a male suspect had smashed the window of a taxi on College Drive.
Following an investigation, North Bay Police arrested and charged Broedie Birkhof, age 20 of North Bay, with one count of assault and one count of mischief under $5000 under the Criminal Code.
It is alleged that the accused physically assaulted two victims in a bar on College Drive. When the victims attempted to leave the scene by taxi, the accused approached the taxi, punched the window and smashed it.
The accused was released with a court date scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2015.
Single motor vehicle collision
At approximately 11:33 p.m. on Friday, October 31, a witness contacted police to report that a male driver of a pickup truck fled the scene after hitting a telephone pole at the 900 block of Beattie Street. Police located the driver on Cedar Heights Road shortly thereafter.
Following an investigation, police arrested and charged the driver with fail to remain under the Highway Traffic Act. He was also charged with driving while ability impaired and driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in blood under the Criminal Code; as well as possession of marijuana under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The accused, a 24-year-old man of North Bay, was released with a court date scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2014.
Fail to remain – Public’s Assistance Sought
At approximately 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, a complainant contacted North Bay Police to report a hit and run that occurred on Cassells Street.
The male driver of a green Toyota Echo, who is believed to be in his 30s or 40s, struck a car on its passenger side and fled the scene. North Bay Police are asking the public’s assistance in locating him.
Mischief – Public’s Assistance Sought
Sometime overnight between Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1, a person or persons unknown smashed a beer bottle on the windshield of a parked Ford Taurus on Paul Street. The windshield was smashed as a result. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the North Bay Police Service or Near North Crime Stoppers.
Theft from two parked vehicles – Public’s Assistance Sought
Over the weekend, two complainants contacted North Bay Police regarding the following thefts from parked vehicles.
Sometime overnight between Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1, a person or persons unknown entered two vehicles parked at a residence on Alexander Road and stole loose change from both vehicles. The vehicles were reported locked. There was no damage done to either vehicle.
Sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, a person or persons unknown entered a vehicle parked at a residence on King Street West and stole loose change and cigarettes. The vehicle was reported unlocked. There was no damage done to the vehicle.
