The North Bay Police Service was kept busy this past week with a variety of investigations. Other than ones that are specifically mentioned below, the following charges were laid:

Impaired Driving---3

Intoxicated persons---7

Assault---2

Robbery

On the 2nd of June at approximately 9 PM it is alleged that two men forcibly entered a residence in North Bay and attempted to collect on a drug debt. The owner was not there but a friend who was dog sitting was.

The two men grabbed the dog and when the occupant tried to intervene, he was threatened with a knife. The men left with the dog and later were located by off duty Cst. Aaron Northrup of this Service.

He then contacted the North Bay Police office and Cst. Larry Asselin and Peter Brunette of this Service effected the arrest.

Mark HICKS 45 years old of Airport Rd. is charged with Robbery. He is to appear in court on the 18th of June.

Leighan DESCHAMPS 38 years old of Carruthers St. is charged with Robbery, Breach of Probation and Possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine). He was kept in custody for a bail hearing.

Fight With Officers

On the 4th of June during at approximately 5:30 PM, officers of the North Bay Police Service responded to a fight call on McKeown Av. When the officers arrived two males were fighting and the officers tried to arrest one of the combatants. He resisted and began to fight with the officers. The police used a taser weapon with negative results. They then used pepper spray and only managed to subdue the man with assistance with an off duty officer at the scene.

Richard LACOSTE 43 years old of McIntyre St. E. is charged with Causing a disturbance and Assault Police. He was kept in custody for a bail hearing.

Shooting Pigeons

On the 2nd of June during the early evening hours it is alleged that man took a BB gun and shot at pigeons within the city.

Cst. Jody deHaas of the North Bay Police Service investigated the incident and arrested a man in relation to this incident.

Frank REIF 74 years old of Fourth Av. E. is charged with Weapons Dangerous. He is to appear in court on the 25th of July.

Assault Police

On the 3rd of June shortly before 2:30 AM it is alleged that a fight was taking place in the downtown area of the city. Cst. Ethier of this Service tried to intervene and was jumped by a male person. Other officers of this Service assisted and arrested a male in relation to this incident.

Luc Arthur ETHIER 42 years old of No Fixed Address is charged with Assault Police. He was kept in custody for a bail hearing.

Arson

On the 4th of June staff of P & G Auto Salvage on Gormanville Rd. surprised two youths that had set fire to a wrecked vehicle.

The youths fled the scene and the employees used a front-end loader to move the flame engulfed vehicle away from other wrecks.

The North Bay Fire Department attended and extinguished the flames.

Police are looking for two youths between the ages of 12 to 16 years old and wearing a white t-shirt and a white beige t-shirt respectively.

Horse Rider In Town

As was previously reported by our Service on the 31st of May, Kimball Foord a horse rider attempting to bring to public attention the awareness of therapeutic riding. He is planning on riding from Guelph Ont. to British Columbia.

He will be at the North Bay Chamber of commerce building at 11 AM today the 5th of June. Interview and photo ops will be available.

Motorcycle Injury

On the 4th of June shortly after 2 PM a man riding a motorcycle on a sidewalk on Gertrude St. hit a water drain and was thrown off the motor vehicle. Investigating officers assisted by an OPP reconstructionist officer closed the road for several hours. The 64-year-old man was eventually transported to a Sudbury hospital with life threatening injuries.

Anishnabek & N. Bay Police Work Together

On the 5th of June Cst. J P Spence of the Anishnabek Police Service stopped a vehicle with 4 occupants in the North end of the city.

He requested the assistance of Cst. Barry MacIntosh and Joe Whitehead of the North Bay Police Service.

The officers eventually discovered that 4 occupants within, were in possession of a skimmer, a peephole camera and a false façade for an ATM machine. They were arrested.

Kandiah KAJENDRAN 27 years old of Charles Alfred Cr. in Markham,

Nishanthan VANNIASINGAN 24 years old of Stains Rd. in Toronto,

Charangan THANGARAJAM 20 years old of Sherbrooke St. in North Bay,

And Jan SOORIYAKUMAR 24 years old of Mammoth Hall Trail in Toronto are all charged with Possession of Instruments for Forging or Falsifying Credit Cards.

All were kept in custody for a bail hearing.
