Over the weekend the North Bay Police responded to 165 calls for service that resulted in 14 arrests for a variety of offences that included, assaults, assaults with a weapon, domestic assault, impaired driving, breach of court orders, and intoxication.

On 29th Jan at 1:13AM an incident that started on Maplewood Av as a fare fraud with a taxi resulted in the cab being stolen.

The cab was located by police on Gormanville Rd but failed to stop for police.

The cab was then stopped on Couchie Memorial Dr and the driver arrested.

Wesley McCallum 20yrs of No Fixed Address was charged with, fare fraud, theft of motor vehicle, flight from police, impaired driving, over 80 milligrams, and possession of stolen property.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On Jan 28th at 12:50AM a man was walking north on the 300 block of Algonquin Av and passed a group of three other males.

One of the men called him a name and when the victim stopped, he was punched in the head knocking him down.

When the victim got up the assailant pulled out a knife and lunged at him cutting the victim’s thumb.

A cab driver pulled up to the victim and the assailant left with his friends.

Calvin Larondeau 23yrs of No Fixed Address was arrested in the downtown area a short time later.

He is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and breach of probation.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Between 11:30 AM and 10:00 PM Sat Jan 28th, the front door of a residence on King St in Callander was forced but no entry gained.

Cst Ross Lingley is investigating.

Between 27th and 29th of Jan a residence on Front St was entered through a kitchen window.

A Sony playstation, video games and a wii video game system was stolen.

Cst Richard Hampel is investigating.

Between Jan 26th and Jan 28th a residence on Pinewood Crescent was entered by prying the front door.

Two DVD players, liquor and jewellery were taken.
