Over the weekend the North Bay Police responded to 199 calls for service that resulted in 18 arrests. Offences included assaults, domestic assaults, assault with a weapon, point a firearm, impaired driving, mischief, breach of court orders and several for public intoxication.
 
Assault with a Weapon

On January 31 at 11:50 a.m. a man attended a First Ave residence where it is alleged that he pounded on the door and yelled obscenities until a male occupant came to the door and demanded that he leave. The man struck the resident in the side of the head with a wooden club. The resident managed to close the door but the man used the club to smash the glass in the door then left. Derrik Lajoie, 30 years old, of Lakeshore Dr was arrested at 5:50 p.m. on January 31. He has been charged with assault with a weapon, mischief under $5000, breach of recognizance, breach of probation, and held in custody for a bail hearing. Firearm

On the 31st of January at 9:40 a.m. North Bay Police checked a vehicle on the 300 block of McIntyre St E. The driver, Drew Weller, 22 years old, of Hwy 17 E was arrested for liquor related offences and brass knuckles were found in his possession. A search of the vehicle located a 12 gauge sawed off shotgun with loose shotgun shells. Investigation revealed allegations that earlier in Jan he had used the shotgun by pointing it and threatening people. He has been charged with two counts of threatening, use firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, assault, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, and occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing. Csts Dan Weber and Christian Elia are investigating.

Impaired and Dangerous

A 35-year-old North Bay man has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and refuse breath test after an incident at 2:40 a.m. on February 1 in a north end bar parking lot. It is alleged that the man, well under the influence of alcohol got in his vehicle to drive when another man tried to stop him. The driver refused and drove away dragging the other man about 15 ft before he dropped off. The driver was located on Douglas St at few where he was arrested. He is to appear in court on February 11, 2014. Cst Seth Dinsmore is investigating.
