Two face assault with a weapon charges

On Saturday, following an investigation into an assault complaint, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Michele Lindsey Hughes, age 27, of North Bay with:
One count of assault with a weapon;
One count of uttering threats; and
One count of mischief under $5,000.

Nadine Melvaer, age 26, of North Bay with:
One count of assault with a weapon.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at about 7:30 p.m., in Melvaer’s residence, a verbal argument between the two women who are known to each other turned violent. It is alleged that while Hughes was leaving the residence, she was holding a kitchen knife while threatened Melvaer. The altercation continued outside the residence, at which time, it is alleged that Melvaer struck Hughes with a hammer. Hughes is also accused of slashing the tires of Melvaer’s vehicle before she left the scene to a nearby gas station, where paramedics and police were dispatched.

Both accused sustained injuries; Hughes required medical attention and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Police seized a hammer and a kitchen knife as evidence.

Both accused were later released from custody. Melvaer is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 28, 2017, while Hughes is scheduled to appear on Mar. 14, 2017.

Woman charged with arson

On Sunday, following an arson investigation, North Bay Police were dispatched to a multi-unit residential building on the 400 block of Nipissing Street, where a female resident was arrested.

Sarah Maria Madsen, age 26, of North Bay was charged with:
One count of arson;
One count of possession of marijuana; and
Four counts of breach of probation.

It is alleged that the accused set fire to garbage within her residential unit shortly before police arrived on the evening of Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017. Police seized a small quantity of marijuana following a search of her person after she was arrested.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Two face drug charges

On Saturday evening, following a traffic stop conducted at Ann and Front Streets, North Bay Police Service patrol and Street Crime Unit officers arrested and charged:

Selina Gloria Jean Protos, age 39, of Commanda, Ontario, with:
One count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
One count of possession of suboxone; and
One count of possession of property obtained by crime, all under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
She was also charged with “driving while under suspension,” under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act.

Michel Larabie, age 33, of West Nipissing with:
One count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

Following a search of their persons and of the vehicle, police seized as evidence:
527 methamphetamine pills;
1.5 Suboxone pills; and
$725 in Canadian currency.

The street value of the drugs seized is estimated at over $3,100.

Both accused were released from custody with court appearances scheduled for Mar. 21, 2017.
