Domestic Violence Stats for November 2014 Over the month of November 2014, 107 domestic occurrences were reported to the North Bay Police. As a result of police investigations into these complaints, 25 people were charged.

Over the month of November 2014, 107 domestic occurrences were reported to the North Bay Police. As a result of police investigations into these complaints, 25 people were charged.

19 males were charged with the following criminal offences:
one male was charged with sexual assault;
15 males were charged with assault;
three males were charged with utter threats;
11 males were charged with fail to comply with release orders or probation orders;
one male was charged with breach of probation;
one male was charged with possessing drugs;
four males were charged with mischief to property;
one male was charged with assault with a weapon; and
one male was charged with attempted murder (as per media release of Nov 19th).

6 females were charged with the following criminal offences:
three females were charged with assault;
one female was charged with assault with a weapon;
one female was charged with break and enter;
one female was charged with mischief to property;
two females were charged with assaulting a police officer;
three females were charged with fail to comply with release orders or probation orders; and
one female was charged with being intoxicated by alcohol.

As of today’s date, 3397 people added their names to the oneplege.ca campaign.

Weekend Occurrences

Over the weekend, the North Bay Police Service responded to 209 calls for service that resulted in 10 arrests. Offences included assault with a weapon; theft under $5000 (shoplifting); assault (domestic); public intoxication; impaired driving; mischief; breaches.

18-year old accused of assault with a weapon

An 18-year-old North Bay man is accused of assault with a weapon, following an altercation between him and another young man that took place on Saturday.

On Saturday, November 29, 2014 at approximately 6 p.m., in an apartment located in downtown North Bay, the accused and a 20-year-old North Bay man entered into a verbal argument, which quickly escalated into a physical fight.

During the fight, it is alleged that the accused stabbed the other man several times with an edged weapon. The victim then fled the apartment and called 911. Paramedics were immediately dispatched to transport him to hospital to seek medical attention for his non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly thereafter, North Bay Police located and arrested Dustin Seddon, age 18, at his North Bay residence, and, following an investigation, charged him with one count of assault with a weapon. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Thefts from vehicles

Following a release issued on Thursday, North Bay Police have received more reports of thefts from vehicles.

Witness reports seeing suspect
Police are looking to identify a male who is suspected of fleeing Chippewa Street East towards Ferguson on Friday November 28th at approximately 9 p.m. after he removed items from a parked vehicle. He is described as 5’7”, wearing a black hoodie, dark pants and carrying a black backpack.

Report suspicious behaviour – Call 911
If you see someone walking from one vehicle to the next checking door handles in your neighbourhood or in parking lots, call 911 to report the location, the description of the individual and the activity you have witnessed.

North Bay Police remind vehicle owners to remove valuable items from view and to always lock their vehicles when leaving them unattended.
 

UPDATE - Motor vehicle collision on Lakeshore Drive

This update follows a release issued on Friday regarding a motor vehicle collision that took place on Lakeshore Drive at approximately 1:36 a.m. on Friday, November 28.

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) confirms that the driver charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg is NBPS Constable Mark McLeod. He also faces the charge of fail to remain under the Highway Traffic Act.

“While it is the Service’s policy not to release the names of those charged with impaired driving, we believe the public has a right to know when a police officer has been charged,” said Deputy Shawn Devine, North Bay Police Service.

The NBPS is currently conducting an internal police disciplinary investigation, under the Police Services Act, into Constable McLeod’s actions as it relates to this incident. Constable McLeod has not been suspended from the Service and will be assigned to internal duties.
