Local blitz leads to 20 traffic charges — 5 for use of phone

The stunt driving charges saw two drivers stopped for travelling over 100 km/h in a 60km/h zone and one driver stopped for travelling over 130km/h in an 80km/h zone

The North Bay Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police laid twenty traffic-related charges during an enforcement initiative on October 28.

NBPS and OPP conducted enhanced enforcement of traffic laws throughout the City of North Bay. This initiative resulted in 20 charges being laid, including:

  • Five charges for using a cell phone while driving
  • Four charges of speeding
  • Three charges for stunt driving
  • Two charges for driving with defective brake systems
  • One charge for driving without a licence
  • One charge for driving without a commercial motor vehicle inspection
  • One charge for unauthorized use of a licence plate
  • One charge for driving without an annual inspection
  • One charge for driving an overweight vehicle
  • One charge for failing to apply for vehicle registration

The stunt driving charges laid included two drivers stopped for travelling over 100 kilometres per hour in a 60km/h zone and one driver stopped for travelling over 130km/h in an 80km/h zone.

“Our members and our policing partners at the OPP did an exemplary job with this initiative,” said Jeff Warner, Inspector of Operations at the North Bay Police Service. “Working together we were able to stop numerous dangerous drivers, helping keep the roads safe for everyone.”
