A North Bay man, who was hired by a senior to maintain her residential property, has been charged with fraud following a North Bay Police investigation into the suspected theft of her cheque book.

Sometime during the term of his seasonal contract with the victim, the accused entered her North Bay residence, as he routinely did to tell her he had completed work on her property. It is alleged that he then stole her cheque book and cashed fraudulent cheques totalling over $15,000.

As a result of the investigation, North Bay Police charged William Lionel Joseph Brown, age 34, of North Bay, with one count of fraud over $5000, one count of uttering forged documents, and one count of theft under $5000. He was released from custody with a court date scheduled for November 25, 2014.

Timmins man faces charges following shoplifting incident

On Thursday, October 23, security guards of a department store on Fisher Street, witnessed a man shoplifting office supplies from the store. Once the suspect left the premises, they attempted to place him under arrest for theft. The suspect proceeded to resist arrest by throwing an object in the direction of one of the guards and by physically assaulting him. The suspect also uttered threats to both guards. The guards then asked bystanders to call police, who responded within minutes and placed him under arrest.

Following an investigation, North Bay Police charged Raymond Lazarus, age 34, of Timmins with one count of theft under $5000, one count of assault with a weapon, one count of assault with intent to resist arrest and one count of uttering threats. The accused was held in custody for bail.
