Three North Bay men face child pornography charges

Three men in North Bay are facing child pornography charges following three separate police investigations.

At the end of March 2014, the North Bay Police Service received information from Greater Sudbury police officers, after three separate individuals were identified in North Bay during investigations into the sharing of child pornography files on peer-to-peer (or P2P) networks over the Internet.

During these investigations, search warrants were executed at three different addresses in the City of North Bay by members of the North Bay Police Service with the assistance of the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s Cyber Crime Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police’s Child Exploitation Unit.

On May 1, 2014, as a result of these investigations, North Bay Police charged Jason Paul Dempsey, age 39, with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of making available child pornography. He was held in custody for a bail hearing at the time.

On June 5, 2014, North Bay Police also charged Darren Johnathan Katt, age 34, with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of making available child pornography and James Barry Wilkie, age 48, with two counts of possession of child pornography and one charge of making available child pornography. Both are to appear in court today for bail hearings.

Detective Constables Fernando Cirullo and Jason Long are the investigating officers.

The North Bay Police would like to thank the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s Cyber Crime Unit, the Ontario Provincial Police’s Child Exploitation Unit, the Meaford Detachment of the O.P.P. and the Meaford Detachment of the Military Police Regiment for their help with these investigations.
