During the week of July 18 to July 24, 2014, the West Nipissing Police Service logged 191 calls for service. Among those were 45 Police Assistance calls, 40 9-1-1 calls, 8 Noise Complaints, 7 Thefts, 7 Alarms, 4 Property Related calls, 3 Animal Complaints, 3 Break and Enters, 3 Neighbor Complaints, 2 Frauds, 1 Assault and 1 Mischief.

On July 11, a complaint was received at the West Nipissing Police Service stating that her ex-husband was breaching his court ordered conditions by communicating with her children. The 30-year-old accused had just been released from jail in Sudbury and had recently sent a text to his daughter and also called her on one occasion. The suspect was located in Sudbury and was transported back to West Nipissing where he was charged with Breach of Recognizance and was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

On July 18, a male attended that WNPS headquarters stating that he had just been assaulted by a person known to him. The victim was observed as having a bloody nose but did not require medical attention. The information provided to the police was that the complainant was walking on John St when he met another male. A verbal altercation escalated to the point that the other male punched him in the face causing the bloody nose. A short time later, the suspect was located and arrested for Assault.  His version of the events leading up to the fight was that the victim had provoked him.  None-the-less, the 36-year-old male was still charged and later released on a Promise To Appear with conditions not to communicate with the victim.

On July 19, a couple of thefts from vehicles complaints were received from the Levesque and Third Street area. The vehicle owners tell police that only loose change, Government cheques and other paperwork were taken. The vehicle had been left unlocked and no damages were done to the cars. There are no suspects at this time but police are still investigating.

On July 19, an 18-year-old female was arrested and charged with Breach of Recognizance after officers responded to a call of a suspicious person in the Allain Court area. Upon arrival, officers located a female where she was questioned about her conditions. A subsequently query of the suspect revealed that she had not signed in to the WNPS as part of her court ordered conditions. She was held in custody and brought to bail court the next day.

On July 20, a vehicle stop on Hwy 17 resulted in the driver being charged initially for speeding but after a driver’s license check, the driver was found to be suspended due to unpaid fines. The 42-year-old male was then issued a summons to appear in court for Drive While Under Suspension.

On July 21, a theft complaint was received from a Janen Street residence stating that in the last couple of months, they have been victims of several thefts. The home owners say that on numerous occasions they have had gas siphoned from their vehicle, bird feeders were torn down and some decorative items including solar lights have gone missing from their front lawn. There were no suspects identified.

On July 22, while on general patrol an officer was flagged down by two females stating that one of the female’s boyfriends had just kicked their vehicle causing a dent in the door. The complainant said that an argument started and when she attempted to leave with their son, the suspect got angry and kicked the car door as they were leaving the driveway. The suspect male was soon located at his residence where he was arrested and charged with one count of Domestic Mischief. A subsequent background check on the accused revealed that he had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest in relation to previous charges. The 20-year-old male was also charged with Breach of a Probation Order. He too was held in custody and brought to Bail court.
