Bike theft leads to trafficking charges

Police arrested and charged a man after a bike theft.

On May 5 shortly before 8:30 a.m., Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a theft of a bike from a residence on Mageau Street, West Nipissing.

Someone had taken the bike and fled into a wooded area, but was shortly located and arrested by police.

A search of the man revealed cash, and drugs suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, opioids and other drugs.

As a result of the investigation, Shawn Moon, 45, from West Nipissing, is charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - four counts
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Moon was held for Bail Court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on May 15.
