Over the Easter weekend, the North Bay Police Service dispatchers logged 306 calls for service says a police news release.

"Once again, 911 Hang-ups or misdials accounted for a significant number of calls, stretching resources and tying up emergency lines," says Constable Merv Shantz. "In total, between 8 a.m. Friday, March 29 and 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 46 calls logged by dispatchers were 911 hang-ups."

911 hang-ups create extra work for dispatchers, and each one must be logged as a call for service, and must be followed up with.

"If you happen to misdial 911, please either remain on the line, or answer a call back from our dispatchers to resolve the calls quickly and efficiently. The public can also call the non-emergency dispatch line at 705-472-1234, to resolve the call."
