Trustee candidate for the Near North District School Board  Bill Steer says he wants to continue bringing policy change to the Ontario Public School Board Association. Steer was recently appointed vice-chair of the northern caucus for OPSBA.

"As a teacher, I know very well that living in northern Ontario brings unique challenges and opportunities for our students," he says in a news release. "For this reason, I was elected to represent the Near North School Board at a provincial level with the Ontario Public School Board’s Association to make sure our public school students in northern Ontario get the same opportunities as other students across the province."

Steer says he is proud to serve as a public school board trustee.

"I am passionate about public education and ensuring our board continues its great work for another four years. I know the role of a trustee is to focus on policy implementation and advocacy. As a trustee for the 2018-2022 term, I have served as Chair of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan Committee which is the most important planning document for the Board."

Steer is chair of the new W.J. Fricker School Build Committee and also sits on the Finance and Director’s Performance Appraisal committees. “ I take this work to heart, so I have perfect attendance.”

Steer is the founder and General Manager of the Canadian Ecology Centre and teaches part-time for the Schulich School of Education, Nipissing University. His media persona is Back Roads Bill.

Election day is Monday, October 24.
