Frank O'Hagan is running to become a school trustee with the catholic board.

Separate school candidate Frank O'Hagan says there are too many lofty vague promises in most strategic education plans.

He uses as examples, preparing students for the future, celebrating the gifts of each and every student and preparing students for the 22nd century "when most current students will be retired or dead."

In a news release, O'Hagan says all strategic plans should include more concrete measures to improve academic achievements.

"If we want to see real gains in academic achievements, school boards need to prioritize academics," he says. "A strategic plan that promises evidence-based reading instruction, safe and orderly learning environments, and more options for families would go a long way. There will be much to be done over the next four years to assure we get back to ' Students First.'"
